Born and raised in South Carolina, Ms. Smallwood obtained her juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she was member of the South Carolina Journal of International Law and Business and served as an Articles Editor during the 2013 – 2014 academic year. Ms. Smallwood’s student note, entitled The Sex Selection Debate: A Comparative Study of Sex Selection Laws in the United States and the United Kingdom, was also published in the South Carolina Journal of International Law and Business in Fall 2013.
While in law school, Ms. Smallwood participated in Women in Law and worked as both a research assistant for the Center on Professionalism and as a law clerk at Collins & Burkett Law Firm, LLC.
She graduated magna cum laude from Presbyterian College, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics in addition to obtaining a double minor in English and History. While at Presbyterian College, she served on the college’s Honor Council and was President of the Society for Advancement of Management.
